Columbia Montessori School July 2015-November 2016

Position Held: Lead Teacher-Primary

Teaching at CMS, I had the amazing opportunity to begin my own Primary Montessori program from the ground up. I began my career there with a class of eight friends and grew our community to twenty-one students at our largest. This group gave me the opportunity to witness the wonders of the Montessori method as it turned our class into a peaceful, calm and cohesive community. My responsibilities included keeping our environment within state licensing regulations, maintaining detailed observation files on each child and keeping parents informed and aware of their child’s development. I also managed a staff of four people, including continued training and delegating tasks in a respectful and professional manner. We were able to utilize Montessori ideology and progressive technology to make sure all friends received the highest level of care and preparation for the rest of their academic lives. I worked among a varied and passionate staff, which I learned countless classroom management techniques and skills from. This was a large non-profit school, making this a great opportunity to learn how to maintain a classroom on a tight budget. I also helped this financial need to organize school wide fundraisers to support classroom budgets to keep beautiful Montessori materials and evolving work on the shelves.
