Crescent Montessori School, a private non-profit school offers, quality Montessori education for children ages 2-14 in Sonoma, California. In our classrooms at the historic Sonoma Community Center and through activities in the greater community, our mission is to create an authentic Montessori environment, where each child is inspired every day in an engaging, dynamic learning experience.
History
The school year 2016-2017 marks the twenty-second year for Crescent Montessori School. Formerly Vintage Country Day School, which was founded by a group of parents in 1983, the school changed hands in 1994, when Karin Niehoff, head teacher, became owner and head of school. Programs
Crescent Montessori School offers programs for children ages 2-5 in the Primary Class, ages 5-7 in the Junior Elementary Class, ages 8-11 in the Senior Elementary Class, and ages 12-14 in the Middle School class. Explore our programs in depth.
Accreditation
In June 2015, Crescent Montessori School received full accreditation (6 years) from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The full self study document culminated in a two and a half day accreditation team site visit. Crescent Montessori is one of a handful of Montessori schools in California to pursue and be awarded full accreditation by WASC.
Crescent is committed to our Montessori principles and confident in the approach. Validation from an independent agency like WASC communicates to our families and the community that their children's education is of the very highest caliber. We continue to pursue excellence in all we do.
Crescent Montessori School is licensed by the State of California Department of Children and Family Services. Crescent Montessori Elementary maintains a Private School Affidavit on file with the California State Department of Education and fully complies with all requirements of the California Education Code pertaining to private elementary schools.
Faculty
The Head of School and our lead teachers have Association Montessori International and American Montessori Society postgraduate Montessori training, and are members of three professional Montessori organizations-Association Montessori International, The American Montessori Society and The North American Montessori Teachers Association. Through our professional organizations we actively continue our education and staff development. All members of our staff have current CPR and First Aid training.
