Renaissance Montessori School, a leading Catholic Montessori environment Northern Virginia, is accepting resumes for a lead teacher (guide) in our Upper Elementary (ages ~ 9-12) program.
Located just 45 minutes outside Washington, DC, on a beautiful 10-acre campus, RMS serves children ages 16 months to 12 years across our Toddler, Primary, and Elementary levels. Founded in 2002 , we are committed to excellence through authentic AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) principles while integrating the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) into all environments to nurture the spiritual and academic growth of each child in an authentic Catholic setting.

Qualifications
Ideal candidates are Catholics who are either AMI Montessori trained (holding relevant diplomas/certificates) or strongly interested in pursuing AMI training, embrace Montessori philosophy, value a supportive and collaborative work environment, and are excited to guide children with respect, independence, and joy. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Training is a plus. Candidates with other Montessori certifications are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
The Upper Elementary guide is responsible for implementing a Montessori curriculum which fosters the education of the whole child; providing for the organization of the classroom environment and presentation of lessons in a manner which implements this whole-child approach, considering the physical, mental, spiritual, social and emotional dimensions of each student; and maintaining good communication with parents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following; others may be assigned:
-Implements curriculum of their classroom
-Is responsible for the safety and physical well-being of the children at all times
-Adheres to professional standards as an educator for the purpose of maintaining quality and excellence
-Follows all policies and procedures of the school as written in the employee and parent handbooks
-Maintains a classroom environment in which the furnishings and materials create an imaginative, nurturing, learning environment and correspond to the needs of the group
-Provides for the learning needs of the individual children
-Protects the privacy and working atmosphere of the class at all times
-Supervises children in the classroom, on the playground at all times
-Supervises children in monthly fire drills
-Helps to maintain current, accurate, individual progress notes, conference reports, progress reports, attendance records, incidental notes and overview of class work
-Holds at least two parent conferences per year
-Participate in the preparation for and implementation of parent events and workshops, which may periodically include evenings
-Oversees communication with parents regarding children’s specific needs and school operational needs
-Participates in school meetings
-Takes responsibility for the care and maintenance of the classroom and teaching materials and equipment. Organize storage of supplies, materials, and activities
-Makes classroom materials as needed
-Reports all accidents or unusual situations to the Head of School
-Notifies the Head of School immediately of personal difficulties with children, parents, or staff members
-Develops other projects, programs, and planning as requested by Head of School
-Supports all school related fundraising projects
-Submit news for the Weekly Update weekly
-Supervisory Responsibilities
-Oversees classroom assistants, parent volunteers, and substitute teacher responsibilities.
Skills
The successful candidate must love and respect children, exhibit leadership qualities, have a sense of humor, be friendly and work cooperatively with teams, must be self-motivated and have the personality to motivate others, and must be able to set priorities and meet deadlines.
This position requires a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations with a continual need for tact and diplomacy, must be able to manage a wide variety of personalities.
