Wimberley Montessori School is currently seeking an experienced and fully certified Montessori Primary Guide (AMI or AMS) whose roll will be to assist the Lead Guide. The assistant is responsible to the Lead Guide and will assist in establishing and maintaining a harmonious classroom.
The Primary Assistant will be able to use good judgment in regard to classroom guidelines, be willing to ask questions and receive guidance, understand the Primary Class day is structured and flexible depending on the day and/or group of children. The Primary Assistant will have good communication skills, be willing to go with the flow, be able to multi-task, paying attention to detail and most importantly understand that the children come first before all other duties.
The Primary Assistant will work as a team with the Lead Guide. It is an intimate and rewarding role and much of the success of the classroom depends on the Assistant’s ability and willingness to support the atmosphere of the classroom.
Specific duties will be discussed in person with applicants. Salary is commensurate with experience
Minimum Associates Degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education or related field.
Preferred: Montessori 3-6 training and teaching certificate and/or related experience; current Red Cross First Aid and CPR Card.
Assist the Guide in preparing and maintaining the environment in which the Montessori approach to education is implemented to the children.
The Assistant is directly accountable to the Director and to the Guide to which assigned.
Responsible with the Guide for the safety, physical and emotional well-being of the children at all times. The children are not to be left unattended.
Responsible with the Guide to deliver positive phrasing of directives when with the children.
Responsible with the Guide to create an atmosphere of kindness, peacefulness and stability.
Supervise classroom as directed by the Guide.
Work with individual and small groups of children as directed by the Guide.
Develop a comfortable and open relationship with the children’s parents. Be prepared to share a short positive story of a child’s behavior at times. Any behavioral concerns that need to be communicated to the parents will be the Guide’s responsibility.
Assist the Guide in the preparation and maintenance of classroom materials, maintaining an orderly environment, keeping it clean.
