We are a small, community school in the charming town of Benicia California. We are now accepting applications for at least one full-time Montessori Primary teacher. The ratio is one teacher to 7 students with no more than 15 students in the classroom. School hours are 8:30 am to 3:45 pm with extended hours from 8 to 8:30 and 3:45 to 5:00. We are an authentic Montessori program with an excellent reputation. Applicants must genuinely love children and demonstrate patience, be soft-spoken and have good communication skills with staff and parents. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience and be competitive.
We are looking for applicants who preferably have a degree, at least 12 ECE units as well as a Montessori Primary certificate. At least one year experience working in a Montessori primary classroom would be beneficial. Applicants must be fluent in English with good communication skills and be a team player. Fluency in Spanish would be a plus as we are eventually hoping to have a full-time Spanish immersion instructor. If you have Site Supervisor or Director qualifications, that would be a plus as well.
We are looking for someone who can commit to Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Prepping the classroom before children's arrival as well as for the following day will be part of your duties. Collaborating with the other teachers on curriculum and preparing materials on a regular basis will also be a responsibility. Being prepared to be with 12 children either indoors or outdoors is also a requirement when other teacher is on a break. Participating in parent conferences, field trips and Staff Development Days are mandatory.
The following skills would be preferable:
Using a Mac computer
Fluent in English
Communicating professionally with staff and parents
Keen observation skills of students
Checking in with Head of School and co-teachers on a regular basis
Soft-spoken and patient with children with a perfect balance of firmness and confidence
Strongly familiar with the Montessori philosophy and able to carry out its principles
