Seeks a Montessori Lower Elementary Guide

Start date: August, 2026 

Reports to: Elementary Principal 

 

Del Mar Academy (DMA) is an independent, bilingual school with a culturally and economically diverse student population. Our academic program spans from the primary level where it is founded in Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in the 11th and 12th grades. The mission of DMA is to provide our community of local and international students an academically excellent bilingual (Spanish and English) education that fosters a love of life and learning, caring for the environment and the community, global consciousness, and a belief in each student’s power to make positive changes.

Located in the Nicoya Peninsula, Nosara is a popular destination among surfers, yogis, families, and nature lovers. A place of tranquility and natural beauty, Nosara is an open multicultural community where concern for environmental sustainability is part of daily life.

Del Mar Academy is nestled on 11 acres, surrounded by a bio-diverse tropical dry forest and minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches in Latin America. DMA is a school between the jungle and the sea!

 

Job Description

Teachers are responsible for implementing the mission and vision of Del Mar Academy on the classroom level in manners consistent with the Montessori and school philosophy. Teachers are responsible for implementing the mission and vision of Del Mar Academy on the classroom level consistent with the Montessori Philosophy. To this end, teachers are responsible for instructional planning and delivery, assessment, the learning environment, professionalism, and student progress. These responsibilities are outlined in detail in the Del Mar Academy Faculty Handbook. Classroom teachers co-teach with a Spanish teacher, providing a dual language environment. 

 

Furthermore, Montessori teachers are expected to:

  • Coordinate regular communication with parents regarding their children’s progress
  • Coordinate with other teachers to develop lesson plans for children to develop their social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills.
  • Demonstrate rapport with students by ensuring kindness and respect for each student
  • Ensure the availability of materials and resources needed to further educational programs
  • Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment for children.
  • Observe the child and interpret the child’s needs
  • Participate in interview processes for hiring new teachers
  • Prepare an environment conducive to learning and social and academic development by providing a nurturing and stimulating place to facilitate children’s growth, exploration and participation
  • Promote the Montessori’s vision and objectives by creating appropriate curriculum
  • Supervise and manage children both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Timely create progress reports of each student
  • Train teacher assistants in order to make sure that they are ready to perform in their roles
  • Use various assessment tools to evaluate each student’s capabilities within the classroom
  • Work with individual students to gauge abilities and work towards catering to these abilities

Qualifications and Experience

  • Montessori Certified
  • Degree in education, master’s degree preferred
  • Understanding of best practices in teaching and learning
  • Experience with relevant age groups
  • Experience with relevant subject areas
  • Experience in international schools and/or bilingual settings

 

Personal skills and attributes:

  • Preference will be given to bilingual candidates
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to adapt to the rural/remote nature of the school and community
