Little Voyageurs Montessori School (LVMS) was established in 1968 and is a non-profit, parent-operated Montessori school located in Columbia Heights. We serve children from diverse backgrounds, approximately age 3 through kindergarten, in a multi-age classroom. LVMS is open year-round, and the educational program is complemented by an extended day program. Both provide a nurturing, high-quality, structured learning environment for the total child. The Montessori program operates within a typical school year, and also includes a 7-week Montessori summer program.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

• Planning, implementing, and presenting Montessori activities in the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, Culture/Geography, Science, Music, and Art
• Observe and assess each child's progress providing individualized guidance and support
• Foster independence, self-discipline, and a love for learning in each child
• Creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, self-directed environment for students
• Facilitating a harmonious work environment with co-workers and children
• Collaborate with other educators and staff members to create a cohesive educational experience
• Collaborate with parents to ensure open communication and involvement in their child's education
• Engaging in proactive communication with colleges, parents, and Board Members
• Maintain accurate records of each child’s progress, write and hold parent conferences
• Implement effective classroom management strategies to create a positive learning environment

Skills

Leadership, flexibility, patience, good verbal and written communication skills , creative, takes initiative, and enjoys children.
