Description

Staunton Montessori School is looking for a warm, reliable, and collaborative Long-Term Substitute Lead Guide to join our Lower Elementary program (Grades 1–3) this fall. This temporary position will begin in early October 2025 and continue through early January 2026, covering for a lead teacher on leave.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Montessori educator who enjoys working with 6–9 year olds in a child-centered environment. Qualifications

Elementary classroom experience. Prior experience in a Montessori elementary classroom is preferred.

Strong classroom management and communication skills

Friendly, calm, and dependable with a flexible and responsive approach to the day’s needs. Able to follow routines and expectations established by classroom staff.

Willingness to follow school policies and uphold SMS’s mission and values
Must meet Virginia Department of Education licensing requirements, including background checks and TB screening. CPR/First Aid and MAT certification are a plus; or willingness to complete certification after hire.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
Maintain a calm, respectful, and organized Montessori learning environment for children ages 6–9

Deliver high-quality, developmentally appropriate lessons in alignment with AMI Montessori philosophy, under a prescribed plan from our current lead.

Prepare and maintain the classroom environment and materials

Track student progress and manage classroom records

Communicate professionally and promptly with families, staff, and administrators. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Collaborate with classroom assistant and program-level team.
