Tall Oaks Montessori School in Blacksburg, VA is seeking a lead teacher for a Primary Class (Early Childhood) to begin in the fall of 2026. AMS or AMI certification preferred. Established class of 3–6 year olds with supportive staff and administration. Mid August to May school year. Salary based on education, experience and responsibilities.

The Lead Teacher in the Children’s House guides children ages 3–6 in a thoughtfully prepared Montessori environment that supports independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Montessori method while fostering a warm, respectful, and engaging classroom community.

Assistant Teacher positions (full-time and part-time) are also available. Please apply if interested.

Qualifications

- Montessori Certification (AMI, AMS, or MACTE-accredited) for ages 3–6 preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or related field
- 2+ years experience in a Montessori or early childhood setting
- Strong understanding of Montessori philosophy and child-led learning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

Classroom Leadership & Instruction
- Lead a mixed-age Montessori classroom (ages 3–6) using authentic Montessori principles
- Prepare and maintain a structured, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment
- Present Montessori materials and lessons across practical life, sensorial, language, and math
- Observe and assess student progress to guide individualized learning plans

Child Development & Guidance
- Foster independence, self-regulation, and social-emotional growth
- Model grace, courtesy, and respectful communication
- Support each child’s unique developmental trajectory

Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with assistant teachers to ensure smooth classroom operations
- Communicate regularly with parents through conferences, updates, and documentation
- Collaborate with school leadership and faculty on curriculum and community initiatives

Classroom Management
- Maintain a calm, orderly, and inviting classroom environment
- Ensure proper care and organization of Montessori materials
- Uphold health, safety, and licensing requirements
