The Kaabe Schools are nonprofit K-12 day schools in Somaliland, launched by the Abaarso School team. Abaarso was featured on 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper when its students became the first from their country in decades to matriculate to US universities including MIT, Harvard, Yale, Brown, and Columbia. Abaarso has also been featured in the New York Times, BBC, CNN, MSNBC, and other numerous other news outlets. The US Government supports Abaarso and its nonprofit subsidiaries via USAID funding.

Kaabe Schools believe in a student-centric approach where the school is designed for the students, rather than the teachers. All students are known and treated as individuals, challenged appropriately, and given the opportunity to explore their interests. Kaabe Schools empower young men and women to drastically improve the lives of their people.

Kaabe is seeking a Lead Montessori Guide for its K/1 mixed grade classroom with an age range of roughly 3-7 years old. We teach English Language Learners in an English immersion environment, so English fluency is required but no other languages are necessary. This lead teacher position would have a full-time assistant in our beautifully designed and outfitted classroom (20-25 students).

Lead teachers are responsible for

  • lesson planning
  • Montessori presentations for students
  • maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment
  • tracking student progress
  • reflecting and collaborating with the rest of the teaching team
  • conflict resolution
  • helping to lead professional development for team members
  • fostering a positive and productive learning environment (“happy workplace”) in the classroom that reflects the values of Improvement, Gratitude, and Community for their students.

Kaabe Schools are located in Somaliland, an autonomous but unrecognized country in the Horn of Africa. Somaliland declared its independence from Somalia in 1991 and has enjoyed peace and a free, democratic society for the 29 years since. This is an opportunity to work with some of the most disadvantaged students in the world and to help build the largest nonprofit Montessori system in the developing world. Please contact us for more information including photos of our beautiful classrooms.
