Position: Lead Guide
Start Date: September 2021

If your passion is to fuel the love of learning in others while advancing your own personal and professional growth, this is a unique leadership opportunity at an innovative school.

About Us
The Wilder School is a private micro-school and learner-driven community with the mission that each person who enters its doors will find a calling and change the world. We combine elements of the Montessori method with Socratic guiding, hands-on experiential quests and interactive technology. Underlying our method is an application of the Hero’s Journey, creating a lively learning environment that feels more like an adventure than school.

At TWS, we have mixed-aged classrooms called studios with a self-paced learning design as opposed to grade-levels. Our real world-oriented quests culminate in a public exhibition of learning as opposed to test scores and report cards. In all areas of life, our students are empowered to be in the driver’s seat of their learning.

The Candidate
We are seeking a full-time, Lead Guide who is a bright, entrepreneurial individual and is passionate about guiding children on their independent journey of lifelong learning. This person must possess an understanding of the Hero’s Journey and the Socratic Method.

Our Lead Guide is comfortable answering questions with questions, leading Socratic discussions and learning how to work with the learning design, processes, and systems provided by our affiliate, Acton Academy. Our Lead Guide will equip learners to explore and take ownership of their learning, monitor progress on Montessori curriculum, and create life-oriented projects that nurture curiosity.

The Position
We are searching for a full-time Lead Guide to begin Fall 2021 in our elementary school studio (ages 6-10). We seek an individual who is passionate about encouraging children on their independent learning journey, is committed to supporting the long-term development of children, and values Montessori/Socratic methods for hands-on, critical thinking in young minds.

Guides are expected to lead Socratic discussions each morning, inspire our heroes to explore, be curious, and take ownership of their learning, monitor student progress on our self-paced curriculum, and create life-oriented projects that nurture student curiosity and culminate in public exhibitions for the community.

The Lead Guide will work with our learners and leadership to:

  • Create an engaging learning environment
  • Empower learners to set their own goals, strive for excellence, and reflect
  • Help learners hold each other and themselves accountable
  • Curate excellent resources and challenges
