A loving, on-the-go family based in Los Altos, CA is seeking a knowledgeable, confident, and supportive private educator for their three daughters, aged 9, 6, and 3 years old!
Based in the beautiful Bay Area, this thoughtful family has fostered a warm, expressive environment in their home. They are avid travelers and place an emphasis on instilling a passion for global awareness in their children. Their three daughters each have distinct, expressive personalities; their two older girls have been attending Montessori school year-round and respond well to a combination of empathy and loving firmness in their educators. Their 9-year-old loves the arts and to read, and their 6-year-old is sociable and loves being creative and building! Their younger sister has been attending play-based preschool and responds to a kind temperance in her teaching. The family is excited to embark on the journey of private education in order to accommodate the many changes of COVID-19. They are seeking an educator who can create an environment of educational growth in their home and their travels that is conducive to curiosity, exploration, and true personal and academic growth.
The ideal candidate for this position will be confident yet collaborative, able to work independently and carve the path of their children’s education, yet open to feedback and flexible to collaborate with the family. A Bachelor’s degree in education is essential, and up-to-date teaching credentials with experience teaching elementary and middle school students is preferred. Experience teaching children with Dyslexia will be valued as well, as their 6-year-old has had trouble reading; she thrives with one-on-one time! The role will consist of researching and implementing curriculum while at home and utilizing all the Bay Area has to offer, as well as accommodating for the family’s international and domestic travel itineraries. The family hopes to find a multi-disciplinary candidate who is a life-long learner with a love for math and science, and who is passionate and knowledgeable about progressive learning approaches such as Montessori. As an expressive home, they’d love to work with an expressive candidate who has creative interests of their own, such as foreign language knowledge, music, and sports!
This is a full-time, live-in or live-out position of 40-50 hours/week with the general schedule falling on Mondays through Fridays from 8am to 4pm. Live-in accommodations include a private guest house on the property with an entertainment room that serves as a dual-purpose classroom. Flexibility to travel with the family for extended periods of time will be valued. The family is offering $35-$40/hour, with an annualized earning potential in the $80k-$90k range, with consideration for expertise, qualifications, and live-in or live-out preference. They are also offering a generous benefits package that includes assistance with healthcare, paid time off, sick days, and museum memberships. Driving will be required for this role and a vehicle will be provided if needed. The position will begin in early September 2020.
